Photobook Project Report

Here is the book link. http://www.fanfan-timetouch.com:8083/book/page/book?id=213448&type=1&is_turn=1&is_share=1#book7/page1 "The text is a process of writing and reading, a continuous act of interpretation." "The Photograph is a poignant memento more, reminding us that time is always slipping away from us, that every moment is a moment lost, never to be regained." - Barthes      By doing this project, my knowledge of photo book has been upgraded. I used to think it would be good to classify the photos into categories and then select some of the better quality photos to put on the page. And then add a caption to each section and it's done.      But since this time the theme was about my dogs, I took it very seriously. I wanted each page to have photos that echoed each other. And to have text that clearly captured the story associated with those photos. I also wanted the content on each page to be back-to-back. I didn't want an illogical jumbl

Exploring Artistic Styles of Barbara Kruger

I chose Barbara Kruger for this research project because her style is completely opposite to mine. My final project's work is very raw and personal, without adding any additional meaning to the photos. It is intended for myself and my family as the audience. On the other hand, Barbara Kruger's artworks are highly impactful and dramatic. She uses bold red and white text on famous or highly recognizable black-and-white images to express her satire and warnings about consumerism, mass culture, gender, and race.       My style has always been subtle, gentle, and quiet . Even though my senior project is aimed at a broader audience, I never considered using contrasting colors, extensive repetition, or large-scale installations to grab attention or provoke public self-awareness. Seeing Kruger's bold and loud style makes me reflect on my own limitations.      I admire Barbara Kruger's works because her images and texts have a strong visual impact  conveying profound me

Musica Pratica

"Beethoven's deafness designates the lack wherein resides all signification; it appeals to a music that is not abstract or inward, but that is endowed, if one may put it like this, with a tangible intelligibility, with the intelligible as tangible." (p 152- 153) Image-Music-Text by Roland Barthes. Barthes argues that music is not merely an abstract or inward experience but possesses a tangible intelligibility that appeals to our senses. He examines different aspects of music, including its notation systems, its potential for transformation and interpretation, and its ability to evoke emotions and sensations. Barthes underlines that music is not solely as a theoretical concept but as a lived experience, an embodied practice that engages both the intellect and the senses.  I agree that music is capable of evoking shared experiences and creating connections between individuals. Also, listeners are not only listening, but also interact with the social and cultural meaning in

Project 2 New Media Intermediate

"The birth of the reader must be at the cost of the death of the Author." (P148 | IMAGE - MUSIC - TEX) I want to agree. Readers take procession while reading. That comes the phrase “there are a thousand Hamlets in a thousand people's eyes“.  Everyone has different experiences in their situations, and the characters, emotions, and situations they can empathize with are also different. Even if similar situations are encountered, the degree and attitude may vary greatly due to personal and background reasons. Since the author is not writing for himself, he must accept this fact. In fact, a book that allows readers to interpret it differently is a good book. It can spark a lot of discussion. These discussions can lead to the regeneration and dissemination of this book in various ways. I don't have to worry about this issue when I think of my final project. I don't really want to show it to others, the content is very personal. For me, what I see in meaningful photos i

IMAGE & INTENTION: A MESSAGE WITHOUT A CODE

I selected this photo when I was organizing my photos. It doesn't have textual message. SO,  it is doubtless necessary to go back to partially illiterate societies, to a sort of pictographic state of the image. Image Illustration: ➡️ Symbolic message: an old garden. (A lot of plants in pots, wild cats, and concrete ground). An old garden with mice. ➡️ Connoted message: The garden was highly possibile built in the 1950s, and it is located in an area most likely in southern China. The manager of the garden was most likely elderly. The largest plant, it is called sago palm whose academic name is Cycas Revoluta . It is wildly planted in southern China, or in southern Japan, the Philippines and Indonesia.  Sago palm's HISTORY BACKGROUND : During China's economic difficulties (1958-1962), when there was a famine in many places, farmers in the area where the sorrel originated dug up the roots of the tree to remove the toxic ingredients and then made starch for consumption . T

Artist Talk Response (Artist David Najib Kasir April 6)

David Najib Kasir depicts the horror of war and the desperation to keep their families safe and intact by using acrylic, encaustic, and mixed media as his mediums of art. He creates large, two-dimensional acrylic paintings that do not show the thickness of the brush strokes, and small, thickly layered encaustic and mixed media paintings. What struck me as particularly interesting about Kasir's work is the similarity between the two styles of painting he uses. Both styles utilize collage techniques to create images out of lines and colors, with a focus on creating a contrasting effect between the grayscale background and the colorful figures. In both styles, Kasir uses tiles and beautiful and intricate Arab mosaics to replace concrete depictions of people and environments. Overall, I found Kasir's work to be visually stunning and thought-provoking. His use of collage techniques and contrasting colors and patterns creates a unique and intriguing aesthetic that draws the viewer in
