Week 8 Response (insecurity of photographic truth, reflections, and works)

"Each photographer uses specific equipments in specific ways to record particular slices of reality for particular reasons for certain audiences and certain purpose, all of which are constrained by conventions, permissions, politics, and insecurities." -Jurgenson page. 96  When first mention the idea that an image is 'an infinity of contingencies', I thought both in macro and micro truth. Macro: what make the photography happened? Our existence is accidental miracle; at present, 60% of our own life is caused by uncertain random coincidence. (The first “life” refers to the first life on earth, the second one is everyone's current life and self.)  How many random coincidence made the beginning microbes our humans?  Also, How many random coincidence made us now? In  Thinking, Fast and Slow , psychologist Daniel Kahneman talks about system 1 and 2 in human's brain: system 1 operates automatically and quickly, with little or no effort and no sense of voluntary con
I like this topic "Too Near and Too Far".  It reminds me a pencil drawn picture which is from the partial art academy exam in 2017 in my country. The partial art academy exam's topic is "relationships between three people", but in that picture, only two people is presenting: a mother around 30 and a boy around 10. They sit in the two sides of an old fashion leather sofa. The mother is sewing and the boy is playing game on smart phone. They both looks unhappy bored and don't notice each other's unhappiness. Thus, they are too near siting on the same sofa as family; they are too far ignoring each other's feeling in silence. On their back, there are 3 photos on the wall. Two photos has two persons; it's not that clear but I recognized they are an adult and a child. Another photo is half fallen and only pictured one person. As people knowing how family works, we know the father is not present. His absence from the picture and from the family portrai

Week 6 Response of Realife

"How are you?" "Did you have a good reading period?" "Did you do something special in reading period?" "What you are going to do?" "Do you want to have dinner with me today?" That are recent communications between me and my friends. Simple and real. "You are beautiful!" "I like this style." "The second photo is extremely well taken. The sunset color and your coat are perfectly matched. 👍  I like it." (first photo) “I haven't seem this kind of fruit in reality! Only heard it is called jobuticaba. It is delicious?" (second photo) "You are right." That are recent communications between me and my friends on my phone.  See the difference of my personality between online and offline? I'm outgoing online, and I encourage others and share my positive energy to friends. In contrast, I am quiet and shy to speak my thoughts and acting polite and boring in reality. I admire the stranger who sto

Week 5 response

Inspired by the reading, I find evidence that service and sales industry take advantage of practicing propaganda, marketing, graphic design, and commercial art.  I made a no prize quiz: what's brand of the Cafe by looking the colors? It is a very short video. Starbucks,  Luckincoffee, and Costa. These three are the hottest cafe brands in China. As you can see, you can guess through the combination of paper cup and the color. The paper cup as a kind of pattern help you recall coffee or tea. Then, the colors are the most important. In my perspective, these cafe brand occupied colors for their brand. If another cafe company using similar green color for their logo. It's easy for people to be compared it with Starbucks. These cafe brands swear the sovereignty of color, and people cannot help linking with the brand when they see the color. This automatic cognitive association happened in our brains, proves that these cafes take advantage of practicing propaganda, marketing, graphic
