1. What is the theme of my Senior Show?
Thinking about the randomness and controllability of human civilization development. From a historical point of view, the emergence, development, and collision of different civilizations are all by chance. Theoretically, civilization should be like biological evolution, which is dominated by the environment and randomness, and one individual cannot change the direction of the collective. But looking back in history from modern civilization, one person can lead a group, a country, or even a civilization to make changes like milestones. Why? Because our ancestors created complex language systems, developed transportation and communication, and built social systems, such as legal systems. And the result of these developments is different "civilizations" around the world. I use quotation marks because I always think that people's understanding of the concept of "civilization" and "culture" is still very rigid, including me. For example, "December 25th is Christmas", my understanding of this holiday is: "There are holidays and family and friends visit each other to give gifts". Meanwhile, for my friends in Europe and America, Christmas originated from pagan and Roman civilizations, meaning religious beliefs, meaning the New Year, meaning many things that I do not feel. As a college student who went out of my own civilization to see the outside world, I saw the exchange and integration of cultures and cultures; I also discovered the limitations of communication between different cultures. I believe that my elected subject matter can stimulate the exchange of cultures. A culture should not be just a symbol, a pale and weak explanation of words, but should be more fluid.
2. What is the content of my Senior Show?
From the perspective of the randomness and controllability of human civilization development, I design and create a series of images of "the hypothesis of civilization development", and accompany with some historical and civilizational science. For example, the image shows a woman in a cheongsam walking in the woods of Millennium Park in Chicago, USA. The hypothesis of this picture is that if the global dress is not unified, Chinese cheongsam dress is continued to be used. Cope's spin-off: "The cheongsam appeared in 1921 and became popular in 1925 because it allowed women to wear the "robe" that only men could wear, reflecting the equality of men and women in China at the end of the Qing Dynasty. " I expected that viewers might think that what I was painting was "confusing in time and space," "culturally confusing," or "drawing" cosplay", so I will add hypothetical details under each painting.
The design is inspired by my current environment and the culture I am familiar with.
3. What do I want to express in my Senior Show?
It is not a deep philosophical thought about where I am or who I am. Rather, I want to break the framework of how people think about "culture". Culture is "alive", "fluid" and "changing". It is also "disappearing" and "forgotten". I hope that people will cherish their own culture and enjoy my work.
4. What is the historical precedent of my historical output?
No precedent has been found for the time being. The great fusion of world civilizations has only just begun! If you have known someone, please tell me! I always well to learn.
